Legal Team
Gillian O’Mahony heads up the Women’s Medical Negligence Department at Lynch Solicitors and has successfully concluded many complex Medical Negligence actions in all areas of clinical and medical negligence litigation.
Gillian joined Lynch Solicitors in 2002 and is now recognised as a leading female Medical Negligence Solicitor and has built a support team with a particular focus on Gynaecological & Obstetric Injury Claims.
Women give birth everyday and for most women this will be a happy time. Some women do unfortunately suffer injury from complications during child birth particularly, where a difficult birth may require an emergency caesarean section, a forceps delivery or an episiotomy.
Child Birth Injury Cases
Gillian is a mother of three young children and is keenly aware of the sensitive nature of Gynaecological & Obstetric Injury Claims. Gillian has experience in dealing with child birth injury cases and other gynaecological injuries which have occurred during procedures such as hysterectomies, oophorectomies and laparoscopic salpingectomies.
Gillian brings an empathetic and compassionate approach to these cases particularly, where woman are embarrassed or reluctant to discuss their injuries.
Some women sustain injuries during child birth that can last for years and cause huge suffering, pain and loss of dignity. Gillian has experience in dealing with cases involving perineal or vaginal tears. These tears may occur during childbirth as a result of the baby’s head passing through the mother’s birth canal or, as a result of the use of instruments used to assist in the delivery. These tears can range from first degree to fourth degree tears. These severe tears can sometimes be missed. If left unrepaired they can cause devastating symptoms, pain and loss of dignity for the mother. Gillian has a keen interest in seeking justice for these women and as a mother is uniquely placed to understand and deal with such cases in a professional and sensitive manner.
Medical Negligence Experts
Over recent years, the firm has developed a particular experience in cancer misdiagnosis cases and works closely with a team of medical experts in the UK to assess and process these cases as quickly as possible.
Since the breaking of the cervical cancer scandal our Women’s Medical Negligence Department have been contacted by a number of women who have concerns about tests that they had carried under the cervical screening programme.
A number of these woman have expressed to us particular concern that they may be out of time to do anything due to the time restraints of the Statute of Limitations. In most of these cases a woman will not be out of time to bring a case due to the “date of knowledge” principle.
